Hazel Spaulding Woods
Hazel Spaulding Woods is a native of Cape May Court House, New Jersey. She received a B.S. in Early Childhood Education and an M.Ed. in Developmental Reading with a Reading Specialist certificate, both from the College of New Jersey. In addition, Hazel received a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Literacy and a minor in Urban Studies from The University of New Orleans. She received the Outstanding Doctoral Graduate Faculty award in recognition of her hard work and academic excellence while earning her doctorate. Hazel has spent more than thirty years in the education profession. She worked as a classroom teacher, school leader, adult education, education consultant, and higher education as an administrator and professor.
The focus that continues to remain at the top of Hazel’s list when choosing her work in education is relationship building. She works with others from an asset approach that allows humans to have a sense of agency and opportunities for personal professional growth. Hazel’s professional interests include educational resilience, teacher preparation, early literacy, and meaningful professional development.
